“He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” – Psalm 91:4
As I sit here this morning with my coffee in one hand and my heart full of gratitude, this verse speaks to me in a way that feels deeply personal. At 63, I’ve lived through seasons of joy, heartbreak, exhaustion, and triumph. I’ve worn many hats—nurse, mom, entrepreneur—and each role has stretched me in ways I never imagined. But through it all, this truth has remained constant: God is my refuge.
I think about the imagery in this verse—God covering us with His feathers. It’s such a tender picture of protection, isn’t it? Like a mother bird shielding her chicks from harm, He wraps us up in His love and keeps us safe. As a mom myself, I know that fierce desire to protect my children from life’s storms. And yet, there have been so many moments when I’ve had to let go and trust that God’s wings are bigger than mine.
In my nursing career, I’ve seen people at their most vulnerable—scared, hurting, clinging to hope. And I’ve learned that no matter how skilled or compassionate we are as caregivers, there’s only so much we can do. That’s where God steps in. His faithfulness becomes the shield that guards us when we’re too weak to stand on our own.
As an entrepreneur, there have been times when the weight of responsibility felt overwhelming—deadlines to meet, decisions to make, risks to take. But even then, I’ve found peace in knowing that I’m not doing this alone. God’s faithfulness is my rampart, my fortress of strength when the pressures of life threaten to overtake me.
This verse reminds me that no matter what season of life we’re in—whether we’re raising kids, caring for patients, or building dreams—God is always there. He doesn’t promise a life free from challenges, but He does promise His presence. And in His presence, there is safety.
So today, I encourage you (and myself) to lean into those wings of refuge. Whatever fears or burdens you’re carrying, lay them down at His feet. Let His faithfulness be the shield that protects your heart and mind. Because no matter how strong or capable we think we are, there’s no safer place than under the wings of our loving Father.
