My Morning with God

This Devotional is written after an awesome teaching from one of the ministers in my church yesterday: She brought up such a profound strategy for managing Crossroads that I continued to ponder on it. In first Kings 3:3-15. Tells how Solomon went to, God in his dream and asked for wisdom, and the God was so pleased that Solomon ask for wisdom he said this. “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself nor have you asked for the death of your enemies, but for discernment, in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart so that there will never have been anyone like you know I will there ever be. Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for, both wealth and honor so that in your lifetime, you will have no one equal among kings . “

Choosing at the Crossroads

Scripture: 1 Kings 3:16-28 (NIV)

"Now two prostitutes came to the king and stood before him. One of them said, 'Pardon me, my lord. This woman and I live in the same house, and I gave birth to a baby while she was there. The third day after my child was born, this woman also gave birth to a baby. We were alone; there was no one in the house but the two of us. During the night, this woman’s baby died because she lay on him. So she got up in the middle of the night and took my son from my side while I was asleep. She put him by her breast and put her dead baby by my breast.' The other woman said, 'No! The living one is my son; the dead one is yours.' But the first one insisted, 'No! The dead one is yours; the living one is mine.' And so they argued before the king."

Reflection: King Solomon

In this dramatic account from 1 Kings, we see King Solomon facing a seemingly impossible dilemma brought forth by two women claiming the same child. At this moment, Solomon stands at a crossroads, both as a ruler and as a wise leader. His decision will not only determine the fate of the child but also reveal deeper truths about justice, wisdom, and discernment.

In our own lives, we often find ourselves at crossroads, faced with decisions that seem overwhelming or confusing. It might be a career choice, a relationship challenge, or a moral dilemma. These moments can be daunting, but they also hold the potential for profound growth and understanding.Pivotal moments that can change the absolute trajectory of our lives.

Wisdom in Decision-Making:

Solomon’s wisdom did not come from simply having knowledge; it stemmed from his deep relationship with God and his desire to govern justly. When we find ourselves at a crossroads, we should seek God’s guidance through prayer and reflection. James 1:5 reminds us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

Embracing Compassion:

As Solomon listened to both women, he demonstrated compassion and understanding. He took the time to hear their stories and discern the truth. Similarly, when we are faced with decisions, taking a moment to listen—to God, to ourselves, and to others—can provide clarity and lead us to make choices that honor both our values and the people around us.

Choosing the Path of Life:

In the end, Solomon’s clever strategy revealed the true mother through her willingness to give up her claim to save her child’s life. This teaches us that sometimes the right choice is not the one that

benefits us most, but rather the one that fosters life and love. At every crossroads, we are invited to choose paths that reflect God’s heart, prioritizing love, compassion, and justice.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, as I stand at the crossroads of my life, grant me the wisdom to make decisions that align with Your will. Dear Lord quieten my mind and Help me to listen deeply to Your voice and to the voices of those around me. May I choose the path that leads to life, love, and a deeper relationship with You. Amen.

Contemplation:

Consider a recent decision you faced at a crossroads. How did you seek wisdom in that situation? What lessons did you learn? Reflect on how you can apply these insights to future decisions.
