My Morning with God: 2 Corinthians 2:17

“For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.”

– 2 Corinthians 2:17 (ESV)

As a 64-year-old nurse, I’ve spent decades caring for people—tending to their wounds, holding their hands through pain, and offering comfort in their darkest moments. It’s a calling that requires sincerity and compassion, and I’ve always believed that God placed me in this role to serve others with His love. This verse from 2 Corinthians speaks deeply to my heart because it reminds me that everything we do for the Lord must be done with integrity and authenticity.

Paul’s words here challenge us to examine our motives. He contrasts himself and his ministry team with those who “peddle” God’s word—people who twist Scripture for personal gain or manipulate others for selfish purposes. Instead, Paul says he speaks “as commissioned by God,” with sincerity and accountability before the Lord. What a powerful reminder for all of us! Whether we’re preaching from a pulpit, leading a Bible study, or simply sharing Christ’s love in our daily lives, we are called to speak and act with genuine hearts.

As a nurse, I’ve learned that people can sense when you’re not being sincere. Patients know when your smile is forced or your words are hollow. In the same way, the world can tell when our faith is just a performance. That’s why it’s so important to live out our faith authentically—not just talking about Jesus but truly reflecting His love in how we treat others.

This verse also reminds me that my life is lived “in the sight of God.” Every word I speak and every action I take is seen by Him. That truth humbles me but also encourages me to keep going. When I’m exhausted after a long shift or discouraged by the brokenness I see around me, I remember that I’m not working for human applause—I’m serving the Lord. And He sees my efforts, even when no one else does.

So today, let’s commit to being sincere in our faith. Let’s speak and act as people who have been commissioned by God Himself. Whether we’re at work, at church, or at home with our families, let’s remember that we are ambassadors of Christ. May our words be filled with grace and truth, and may our actions reflect the love of the One who has called us.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, prior to asking for anything I thank You for calling me to serve You in this season of my life. I thank you for giving me guidance even as a young girl to move in to healthcare as a career choice . Help me to live with sincerity and integrity in everything I do. Guard my heart against selfish motives or empty words, and fill me with Your Spirit so that I can reflect Your love to those around me. Let my life be a testimony of Your grace and truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
